Playing a Priest class character in World of Warcraft PvP is something of a paradox. Priest are either extremely powerful and flexible, or pathetic and weak, based on how you play them. With a wide variety of heals and vast quantities of mana, they can be difficult opponents to eliminate or defend against. But with minimal health and no armor, a smart oppontent can quickly take down a careless or unskilled Priest. To win PvP battles as a Priest requires careful preparation and a good understanding of how to hurt your enemies with indirect damage. Playing a Priest is challenging, but rewarding.
By default, Priests are the healers in any player versus player group battles. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Holy and Discipline Priests are very useful as part of arena or battleground groups, where they buff and debuff characters generally filling the classic healer role. Then there are the Shadow Priests. Armed with potent DPS (Damage Per Second) attacks, they can not only cause real harm to the enemy, but they can still do some healing for their allies. Whether your Priest provides aid and healing to your party, or kicks butt on the attack largely depends on how you spec out and play the class.
A Priest can be extremely effective against many classes – they can crowd control with Fear and dish out DoTs (Damage Over Time) spells, while at the same time, they can dispell most any spell an opponent casts. But against other classes, a Priest without the right strategies is virtually defenseless. Without the correct strategy, a Priest has no realistic chance against a Rogu, for example.
This is why a quality Priest PvP Guide is crucial. A good guide will not only give the Priest useful strategies and tactics to use against each type of opponent, it will give you a better idea of how each other class is likely to attact your Priest. A good Priest PvP Guide will also give you more than a handful of standard strategies for Priests. It should show how to take on all of the other classes in solo duels. And it should show how the Priest, in each of its three specs (Holy, Discipline, and Shadow), can best fit into a 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 team.
Because a quality PvP Guide contains the hard-earned combat experience of Priests with a vast amount of experience, it will contain strategies and tactics that are not obvious to newer players. In short, a good PvP Guide will save you vast amounts of time and energy you would otherwise spend on trial and error.
